Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was one of the must-own games on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Released in 1996, this was the last game Square developed for Nintendo hardware before abandoning Nintendo in favor of Sony's new PlayStation, and in fact Square would not develop anything for Nintendo again until starting to develop software for Game Boy Advance in 2002. Square was known for amazing RPGs (role-playing games), namely Final Fantasy, but with Mario RPG they produced something absolutely unlike any other RPG out there and something that was an instant classic. It remains one of the most beloved games of the era and a heavily-sought-after treasure to this day, as it often fetches $60, $80, or even $100 when sold at places like Ebay or specialty shops dealing in classic games.

Leading up to the 2006 launch of Nintendo's Wii, Super Mario RPG was one of the games most wanted for the Virtual Console, but thus far it has eluded us. Gamers can rejoice, as the game will finally be gracing Wii consoles everywhere when it is made available in Japan this month, and it should be released in the United States some time thereafter in 2008. It is expected to sell for the Virtual Console for $8, and the game is worth every penny of it.
